WestWood Spice Director, Roger West, speaks on “Towards Excellence in Boards” at the National Disability Services (NDS) Pre State Conference Leading the Way Seminar.
This one day event at Sydney’s Hilton Hotel on Sunday 12 February 2012 was attended by over 500 board members, CEOs and senior executives of not-for-profit organisations from the disability sector. The seminar was sponsored by NDS though its Industry Development Fund as a response to the National and State disability reform agendas which involve significant transfer of responsibility and resources to the not-for-profit sector, a focus on individualised funding and person centred planning and support for people with a disability. The seminar provided an opportunity for participants to engage in strategic discussion about opportunities to strengthen leadership and governance capability across the disability sector in preparation for the reforms.
Roger’s presentation on excellence on boards focused particularly of the roles and legal responsibilities of board members, and the relationship between board members and their CEOs and executive staff. It was highly practical and provided sound advice and checklists on these matters. A copy of the presentation and other papers from the conference will also be available on the NRS website at www.nds.org.au.
WestWood Spice can provide advice and training on these and other governance issues, and can also assist with board reviews and self-assessment.
