Policies and procedures

Client: PSYCHIATRIC REHABILITATION AUSTRALIA (PRA)

Preparation of Occupational Health and Safety Policies and Procedures to meet the requirements for Quality Accreditation under AS/NZS 4801

PRA is a non-government social enterprise providing non-clinical, community-based support and rehabilitation services to people with psychosocial disadvantage or psychiatric disability. Services are aimed at reducing people's dependence and increasing self-esteem and satisfaction.

In 2010-11, WestWood Spice was engaged to assist PRA in preparing documentation to meet requirements for quality accreditation under AS/NZS 4801 Safety Management Systems. We worked closely with PRA to identify the policies, procedures, work instructions and forms that should be controlled as part of the OHS Management System, highlighted gaps where processes needed to be updated to meet quality standards, generated templates or various types of controlled documents and finalised the documentation based on feedback from PRA. The result was a comprehensive draft manual setting out the policies, procedures, work instructions and forms comprising an OHS Management System designed to cover all of PRA's services to clients, community business and organisational functions.

The policy and procedures were developed as part of a package of information to support the Society's Statement of Apology for the hurt and suffering caused to individuals who were affected.

Client: MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION

Review of Human Resource Policies and Procedures

The Mental Health Association of NSW (MHA) is a not-for-profit organisation providing information, support and education to people affected by mental illness in NSW. In late 2008, WestWood Spice was engaged by the MHA to assist it in a thorough overhaul of its human resources policies and porcedures and to develop a perforamnce development system that could be readily implemented by the organisation.

As part of the project, we prepared new policies and procedures, using a standard format to bring them into line with good HR practice; revised and revamped HR forms; and designed a Performance Development system suitable for a small organisation - with more emphasis on learning and development needs as an essential component of annual work planning, and step-by-step guides for supervisors and staff on what to do before, during and after workplan and annual performance review meetings.
